What is productivity?

Productivity refers to the measure of efficiency in completing tasks and achieving goals, typically in relation to the input of resources such as time, effort, and cost.

At the individual level, productivity often involves maximizing output while minimizing the input of time and effort. This can include completing tasks in a timely manner, managing time effectively, and producing high-quality work. In a business or organizational context, productivity is crucial for optimizing operations, reducing costs, and enhancing overall performance.

Ways to be more productive

Have a to do list

The most basic productivity advice is usually the most effective. If you want to get your life in order and get things done, create a to do list. It can be as simple as writing down one task that you need to complete today, all the way up to labelling them alphabetically. Star off small and slowly build up in the number of daily tasks. if the task is to big to complete in a day then break it down into manageable chunks.

Journal

Taking five minutes in the morning to journal can change your life. To do list, gratitude, observations, quotes, experiences, they all give you valuable insight into your life. Writing these things make you start to evaluate you life. 5 minutes in the morning to increase your productivity sounds like a good deal. Our brains are constantly bombarded with information, we cannot remember everything. writing down your thoughts can organise the chaos and put your life back in order. my days before journaling were lost. Most of the day was lost with no direction and I wasted most of the time consuming media. with journaling i have gratitude, habits, to do list, memories and insights, all in one place. this daily practice keeps my productivity flowing and motivated. Grab yourself a notebook and start writing.

Create a distraction list

A distraction list is a valuable tool in managing focus and productivity. By jotting down potential distractions that may arise during work or study sessions, individuals can proactively address and mitigate these interruptions. Whether it’s responding to non-urgent messages, checking social media, or handling miscellaneous tasks, listing potential diversions helps create awareness and enables users to stay on track. A rule I like to follow, is not consuming content until my daily tasks are done. That means no television, YouTube, not even a book.

Eat that frog

Tackling your most important task of the day, is what Brian Tracy means by eating the frog. when we are bombarded by tasks and we don’t know what one to do first, this is when this technique comes into play. this is best paired with the ABCD technique that is also in his book. Label your tasks in order of importance. A being the most important, going down alphabetically. The A task is your ugly frog and it is the most important thing to do on your to do list. This simple trick by Brian Tracy has improved my productivity at least 5x.

Creating goals

Setting goals is a foundational step in personal and professional development, providing a roadmap for progress and achievement. Goals serve as motivational markers and efforts toward meaningful outcomes. Whether aiming for career milestones, educational pursuits, or personal growth, establishing clear goals helps individuals stay focused and organized. Regularly revisiting and adjusting goals allows for adaptability and ensures that efforts align with evolving aspirations.
